Overview & History

Issued to mark the 200th anniversary of Rani Channamma's victory at Kittur. In 1824, the Queen of Kittur led an armed rebellion against the British East India Company's doctrine of lapse, achieving a historic victory in defense of her kingdom's independence. This coin honors her bravery as one of India's earliest female freedom fighters.
